Goodwood Revival is one of my most favourite annual events. Goodwood Revival is about more than the motor racing, it is about old school glamour, the opportunity to dress up in period outfits and the chance to walk into a ‘live’ film set at every turn.

As a local West Sussex milliner, Goodwood and its annual events are a key driver for my business. I still have to  pinch myself each time I see someone ‘out and about’ in a hat or headpiece I have made. It is such an honour and privilege to be asked to create something to complete their outfit that will be seen on the most photographed part of their body. I would just like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all my clients and to share some of their Goodwood Revival photos.

This year, Goodwood Revival led with a Revive and Thrive theme focus and it was great to see a celebration of all things re-purposed and handmade. From macramé, quilting, furniture painting and dress making experts were on hand to chat and demonstrate their craft. It was a total pleasure to meet Juliet Uzor, the Great British Sewing Bee winner from 2019. Her duster coat was absolutely stunning and since Goodwood Revival I have been listening to her awesome crafters podcast for some much needed company whilst I handcraft my hats.

My family and I always head for the quirky photo spots to grab the nearest prop and just spend some time together soaking in the atmosphere. As with any great event, I try to look for ways to keep the positive vibes going after we get home.

Goodwood Revival 2022 fashion and vintage fun

My ‘take-homes’ this year was the need to a) learn how to style my hair properly (keep an eye on my social media for some honest journeying!) and b) to share my own ‘revive and thrive’ skills to help others feel great.

A few years ago I taught one of the lovely ladies from St Wilfirids Charity Shop how to revive vintage hats so they could steam some life back into their donations. Since having my hat and haberdashery shop in Arundel, one of my goals has been to launch a ‘back to basics’ sewing school to help others learn and develop their skills. With a need to develop a more sustainability fashion industry and the increased need to find new ways to support positive mental health there is no better time. If you would like to learn a new sewing skill or you have ideas of how we can shape our sewing school please do get in touch - I would love to hear from you. Our  sewing school will not only enable our students to learn how to create, adjusting or repair a garment, but to also develop self-confidence and new ways to express themselves as they learn and master skills. If you would like to find out more about the courses we run, hop over to the workshop section of my website.

Although a huge event Goodwood Revival does have a strong sense of community, of coming together of like minded people and I am very much hoping that our sewing school will lead to a strong stitch sharing community where knitters, crochets, sewing and all crafters can come together to share their makes through our weekly ‘Stitch and Chat’ sessions. Initially the sessions will be in person but once I’m techno confident I would love to mirror this with a virtual session to bring even more people together to share their love of all things stitching.
