Thursday is ‘Gold Cup’ Day at Royal Ascot, renowned for its spectacular fashion and striking millinery. With the racecourse set a myriad of lords, ladies and celebrities it was the perfect day for our team to showcase our Isabella Josie hats and headpieces.
Royal Ascot remains steeped in tradition, from the union jack bunting lining the route to the racecourse entrance, to the regal royal carriage procession, and the nostalgic bandstand sing-along. While modern additions such as the massive TV screens and designated photo spots bring a contemporary touch, they enhance the experience by allowing all racegoers to engage more fully with the action.
To truly appreciate the fashion spectacle of Royal Ascot its best to arrive just after the gates open at 10:30am to people-watch and see the press eagerly capturing the outfits adorning stunning models and influencers.
Trends on Display
This year, floral and lace elements dominated the fashion scene. Trouser suits emerged as a popular choice among racegoers, reflecting a blend of modernity and elegance. Key outfit colours of the day were classic black and white, exuding sophistication and timeless style.
Hats are a key part of Royal Ascot, with regulations varying across different enclosures. In the Royal Enclosure, the strictest rules apply, requiring a minimum base diameter of at least 10cm. Whilst headwear is still expected in the Queen Anne enclosure the size is left to its wearer and other enclosures simply encourage headwear, allowing for a delightful variety of styles.
One standout piece for me was a white lace boater hat, elegantly worn by Leonora Smee. On Ladies Day, the mantra of ‘bigger is better’ was embraced by many attendees, resulting in an array of fantastical hats. Among the most eye-catching designs were a white owl feathered hat, a vivid red floral display, and hats featuring miniature racing horses. These creative headpieces added an extra layer of excitement to the day’s festivities.
In the lead-up to Royal Ascot, I was thrilled to be asked to create a wide range of bespoke hats and headpieces for our clients. Designing and crafting headpieces for such a prestigious event is a true privilege, and I am continually humbled by these requests.
As the photos from the event come in, I will share them with you on our social media channels. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with one of my favourite pictures from the day. Here, you can see two beautiful ladies, the lovely Debbie from our very own Arundel Pharmacy, captured on camera with singer Katherine Jenkins.
